04/20/02 - Arnel, pinabili nang suka nang ina, na-deadbol
Arnel Amores was found dead along Mendiola bridge just after the May Day parades. Police reported that he walked along a pathway that divided the pro and anti-Estrada rallyists. They said that the two factions mistook him for being a member of the opposite group and that both groups then carried a brutal attack on him. A distraught witness recounted the incident, "Nakaka-diri at nakaka-awa! Kalat-kalat!!"
The saddest part about Arnel's demise in this bizarre incident was that he died while making an innocent errand for his mother. "Pina-bili ko lang nang suka sa kanto iyan eh", said his crying mother. "Pero yung bote na lang ang bumalik. At wala pang suka!".
Arnel will be sadly missed by all.
On a happier note, this paper is retracting last month's report that Arnel was decapitated. There was no truth to that story after all. He was never at 'balikatan'. In fact he didnt even know that there was a 'balikatan'. We are glad to report that Arnel was still with us last month. But unfortunately not this month's.
04/18/02 - Party Continues!
Even after the tumultuous week of the Reunion, the spirits of the 4R1/R2 students are still running high. There are already events planned for a get-together in both the PI and the US. The email exchanges has also gone into top gear specially with the release of the Unofficial Newsletter. The official version of the Newsletter will be released in the coming months.
An outing is being organized for those who would like to escape the heat, humidity and pollution of Manila this summer. This follows the invitation by Susan Navales for everyone to visit her hometown of Lucena. Chona is still gathering details for the event. "Tawagan ninyo si Chona kung gusto niyong sumama!". See the Contact list section. There are also plans for a Christmas Party to be held in Manila every year from hereon.
In the US, talks are already underway at another mini-Reunion in San Francisco planned for Christmas or New Year. Andy Siongco, Abraham Miralles, Paul Leonor, Luisitio Perez,
Constantino Aguinaldo, Rodolfo Violanda, Danilo deLeon, Eduardo Lanuza, Buen Guido, Edgardo Zapanta and Francisco Parayno are expected to be there. It is hoped that other US residents could come like Ruth Arca, Lucille Cachola and Susan Cabrera. In addition, the presence of Antonio Liza on a work visa in the US may allow him to join the gang. "Sana naman maka-sama si Tony at and mga babae."
On another front, students of UST EHS 4R2 class of 1978 have been congratulating the success of the 2002 Reunion. Just look at what they have been saying:
"Compliments to your successful reunion! I hope 4R2 -Batch 78 does the same next year."
- Tito Ramos (tramos@americanremaninc.com)
"Best Wishes to All - Class of '77 25th Re-Union. Ariel Collantes 4R2 Class of '78"
- Ariel Collantes (glac1109@netscape.net)
"Congratulations!!! PS: I'm your fellow EHSian, with 4R2 batch 78"
- Wilfredo Salazar (wtsalazar@mindgate.net)
"Please give us your suggestions on how we could also have a successful 25th reunion next year. Its April and we only have 12-15 on our 4R2 registry. Thank you."
- Rico Calayag (ncalayag@pworld.net.ph)
The last comment is particularly endearing since they are in exactly the same position that the '77 batch found themselves in, just last April. Please, send the class of '78 any help or any suggestions that you can spare. We hope that they have as much success in their Reunion as we had in ours.
